Portfolio of Work

Training and Overall Skills

  • The Conservation Practice program at Cardiff University focuses on understanding materials, decay processes, and problem solving. Hands on object treatment is an important component of the program, with projects covering a range of object types and materials.
  • Classes and practical work at Cardiff included extensive instruction on the various types of equipment used for materials analysis and identification. I have significant experience with microscopy, UV light examination,  xray imaging and analysis, and FTIR analysis of samples; other techniques for which I have a basic familiarity include scanning electron microscopy (SEM), xray fluorescence (XRF), and xray diffraction (XRD).
  • I have experience with several catalog database programs, particularly FileMaker Pro, KeEMu, and CALM. At every stage of my training I have been responsible for writing condition and treatment reports to document my work.
  • I am trained in all steps of documentation photography including setup, lighting, photographing, and processing the photographs using Adobe Photoshop, Graphic Converter, and similar programs.
